Our caps are built to be worn wherever life takes you. A few simple habits are what keep your cap in shape and ageing with character, instead of just wearing out. No fluff, just what works: steaming, hand washing and careful drying.

Never

Machine, dishwasher, heat

The washing machine, the dishwasher (yes, people try) and direct heat are the fastest ways to ruin your cap.

Always

Hand wash, reshape, air dry

Lukewarm water, a little mild soap, reshape while damp, and dry away from direct sunlight or heat.

Steaming out wrinkles

Your cap has travelled to reach you, so a few wrinkles are normal. Glide a clothes steamer slowly over the inside, folding back the sweatband to reach everywhere. No steamer? Hold the cap a safe distance above a pot of boiling water. Then pack the inside with something soft, a towel, rags or bubble wrap, to hold its shape, and let it dry overnight with the stuffing in.

Washing

Hand wash only. Pre-treat any marks, especially around the sweatband, with a little mild detergent and a soft brush, working in small circles. Soak the cap for up to 30 minutes in lukewarm water with a mild, non-bleach detergent, then rinse thoroughly under cool running water until the soap is gone. Pat it dry with a towel (no wringing). Then pack the inside with something soft, a towel, rags or bubble wrap, to hold its shape, and let it dry overnight with the stuffing in, away from direct sunlight or heat.
