Founder's Letter
Artless came to me in a dream. I'd been collecting caps my whole life, but in that moment it clicked. This wasn't a hobby. It was the thing I was supposed to be doing. Flip through my family's old photo albums and I'm in a cap in nearly every shot, like it was part of me before I knew it. Maybe that's because I grew up moving between Amsterdam, L.A., Vancouver and New York, soaking up 90s pop culture, sports, street style and music. I stitched together my first cap at eleven. It wasn't perfect, but it confirmed my obsession.
That's what I love about it. A cap is never a finished object. It fades, softens and changes shape. You grow attached to it the more you wear it, with every bit of sun, every rainy walk and every city that leaves its mark. An Artless cap is supposed to get better with age, picking up a bit of your story every time you put it on.
For me Artless is also an extension of my photography, because it comes down to the same thing: storytelling. With a camera I am always trying to capture who someone really is. The real moments, the relatable little behaviors, the small things that make someone the individual they are. Artless is the same concept in a different form. The cap is just a common thread.
That's why I see Artless as a platform more than a label. A place to create with complete freedom, an ever evolving playground for ideas and design, a way to keep telling stories without compromise. Every campaign, every drop, every cap carries the spirit of individuality. The mission is simple: honor the people under the cap, their style, their attitude, their story.
Sustainability
We're not naive about what we do. The world isn't sitting around waiting for another cap brand, and we're definitely not solving the climate crisis. But we also believe small actions add up, and we're doing everything we can to make sure ours contribute to a shift in the right direction; one that values people, craft, and the environment.
From day one, we have been committed to doing things the right way, even when it's harder or more expensive. We believe in fair labor, responsible sourcing and sustainable practices. This sense of responsibility isn't just a trend; it's the moral and ethical compass that guides our business. It fosters customer trust, drives innovation, and ensures a lasting, positive impact on society and the environment.
Our caps are made from 100% GOTS certified organic cotton, which guarantees that its grown without harmful chemicals and pesticides, uses less water and ensures fair working conditions to the farmers growing it. An Artless cap should not only feel good to wear, it should feel good to own, knowing it was made with respect for the people and the planet.
Craftsmanship
We sweat the details so the cap looks effortless. Every stitch and the exact curve of the brim is a decision someone made on purpose. A cap is a simple object, and that's exactly the hard part: there's nowhere to hide a lazy seam. So we keep refining each piece until it holds up.
Our factories and manufacturers are central to this process. We work with leading industry partners in China, setting new standards for what "made in China" can mean. These are the best cap manufacturers in the world that strictly work under the BCIS certificate to maintain the highest standards for quality and consistency, ensuring every cap meets our exact requirements. This partnership allows us to combine scale, precision, and accountability without compromising on the integrity of the product.
